THE UNCANNY: A CONTEMPORARY EXPLORATION.
This publication is a visual and conceptual exploration of perception, familiarity, and the uncanny. Merging Freud’s The Uncanny with contemporary insights, it examines how our minds construct idealized realities and how imagery shapes interpretation. Inspired by studies on masked faces during COVID-19, it dissects how visual elements like composition and color influence perception.
The visuals reinforce these ideas through editorial photography, where I directed and captured images exploring facial transformation and emotional expression. Manipulated portraits and expressive collages challenge the boundaries between the familiar and the unsettling, mirroring the book’s themes.
Through experimental design and thought-provoking visuals, the project invites readers to question their biases and reconsider how they perceive and interpret images.
