THE UNCANNY: A CONTEMPORARY EXPLORATION.
A conceptual publication exploring perception, constructed reality and the uncanny.
The text combines direct extractions from Freud’s The Uncanny with original writing in the first half of the book, where I examine how his ideas apply to contemporary image culture. Focusing on the COVID era, the project investigates how masks have altered our perception of human faces and reshaped what we consider familiar.
Through editorial photography, expressive collage and manipulated portraits, the visuals explore facial distortion, emotional ambiguity and the tension between recognition and discomfort. Using experimental design and image making, the work invites readers to question how visual cues influence the way we interpret identity.
